Reniec facilitates DNI duplicates ahead of 2026 elections

The National Registry of Identification and Civil Status (Reniec) is urging citizens to ensure they have valid identity documents ahead of the 2026 Regional and Municipal Elections. As of August 2026, the agency has processed over 351,000 online duplicate DNI requests for adults.

Citizens can request DNI duplicates through the official Reniec website. The process involves making a payment via various methods—including the Banco de la Nación, BCP, Yape, or credit/debit cards—and using the DNI BioFacial mobile application for identity validation and facial photography if migrating to an electronic DNI.

In the Arequipa region, Reniec has scheduled special service hours for Saturday, September 5, at five locations: the Arequipa Registry Office, MAC Arequipa, and agencies in Camaná, Majes, and Islay. These centers will provide processing and delivery services to assist voters before the October 4 elections.

Reniec reminded the public that the DNI is the only valid document for voting. However, under resolution 000023-2026-RENIEC/JNAC, voters will be permitted to vote with an expired DNI, a DNI nearing expiration, or a minor's DNI specifically for the October elections.
