Reniec implements new DNI appointment and digital services
The National Registry of Identification and Civil Status (Reniec) has implemented new procedures for managing National Identity Documents (DNI) in Peru. To streamline identity management ahead of the 2026 Regional and Municipal Elections, the agency has activated virtual channels and the DNI BioFacial 3.0 mobile application for Android and iOS.
The mobile app features improved biometric recognition and photographic capture to validate applicants. Through this digital platform, citizens can manage the first-time issuance of electronic DNIs, renewals due to expiration, and direct links for duplicates and address updates.
Additionally, Reniec has established a system of appointments for seven specific service centers nationwide for procedures such as duplicates, renewals, updates, and rectifications. These appointments must be booked via the official website after completing the required payment through methods like Yape or Banco de la Nación. Notably, appointments are not required for picking up physical DNIs or for civil registry tasks such as birth, marriage, or death registrations, which are handled on a first-come, first-served basis.
