Renovación Popular demands resignation of Peru police chief

The Renovación Popular party in Peru has demanded the resignation of National Police Commander General Óscar Arriola following a violent attack in Trujillo. The incident, which occurred on Húsares de Junín Avenue, resulted in the deaths of four individuals—identified as Farhad Andrea Monzón Lingán, Nadia Edith Urtecho Rodríguez, Luis Alberto Rojas Ramos de Rosas, and Christopher Eduardo García Álvarez—and the kidnapping of a mining businessman, Jens Marty Lara Tantaquilla.

Parliamentary deputies from Renovación Popular, along with other political groups such as Juntos por el Perú and Ahora Nación, have criticized the police leadership for a lack of results in combating organized crime and rising insecurity. The party stated that the National Police requires a change in leadership to regain public order and safeguard citizens. Government sources have also indicated dissatisfaction with Arriola’s management of security forces following the recent surge in violence.
