Reopened Krsto Hegedušić Gallery Marks Cultural Revival in Petrinja

The Krsto Hegedušić Gallery in Petrinja, Croatia, reopened on Wednesday evening after a six‑year restoration prompted by the devastating December 2020 earthquake. The €1.9 million project, financed largely by the Ministry of Culture and Media with the remainder from the European Union Solidarity Fund, was part of a broader effort to rebuild 26 cultural‑historical sites in the town.

Minister of Culture and Media Nina Obuljen Koržinek praised the work, saying the restoration symbolically returns Hegedušić and the town’s cultural identity. Mayor Magdalena Komes described the gallery as a “cultural lighthouse” for Petrinja’s citizens. The venue, founded in 1987 to honor the prominent Croatian painter Krsto Hegedušić (1901‑1992), now displays a selection of his works, pieces by other artists, and items from the private Bernić family collection, reaffirming its role in preserving modern and contemporary Croatian art.
