Rep. Don Bacon calls Trump's endorsement of Ken Paxton a mistake
Rep. Don Bacon (R‑Neb.) appeared on CBS’s Face the Nation and said President Donald Trump’s endorsement of Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton for the U.S. Senate was a mistake. Bacon noted Paxton’s recent impeachment by the Republican‑controlled Texas House, a messy divorce, and past securities‑fraud allegations, arguing the endorsement could hurt the president and leaves the seat vulnerable in the general election. He added that former Senator John Cornyn, a longtime fundraiser for Republicans, might have easily retained the seat.
During the interview Bacon also addressed the ongoing Russia‑Ukraine war, supporting increased production of Patriot missile interceptors and urging allies to help expand anti‑ballistic‑missile capabilities for Ukraine amid current stock‑pile shortages tied to other commitments.
