Rep. Jimmy Gomez faces House Ethics investigation over sexual misconduct allegations

The House Ethics Committee has launched an investigation into Representative Jimmy Gomez (D-Calif.) regarding allegations of sexual misconduct. The probe includes allegations of inappropriate sexual contact.

Gomez released a statement acknowledging that he made “personal mistakes outside” his marriage but maintained that his actions were “consensual in nature” and did not violate House Ethics rules or the law. He stated he is working to address the impact of these mistakes privately with his family.

However, attorneys Lisa Banks and Sarah Nesbitt, representing one of the accusers, issued a statement contradicting Gomez’s claims. They asserted that their client informed the Ethics Committee that Gomez’s actions were not consensual and involved sexual harassment and assault. The legal team stated they expect the committee to reach a similar conclusion during its investigation.
