While some caucus members, including Representative Johnny Olszewski, have expressed support for Gomez stepping down pending the results of the ethics inquiry, a leadership transition is not expected until after the November elections.

The committee, led by Chairman Michael Guest and Ranking Member Mark DeSaulnier, noted that the existence of the inquiry does not itself indicate that a violation occurred. If allegations are substantiated, the committee may recommend reprimand, censure, removal, or a referral to the U.S. Department of Justice.
