Rep. Jimmy Gomez to step down as Dads Caucus chairman

Representative Jimmy Gomez (D-CA) has informed members of the Congressional Dads Caucus that he will not seek another term as its chairman. Gomez is currently facing allegations of sexual misconduct, including an accusation of sexual assault which he denies. These allegations have prompted an investigation by the House Ethics Committee.

The news follows reports that Representative Jake Auchincloss (D-MA) left the caucus due to the ongoing investigation. While Gomez has indicated his intention to step aside, a leadership transition is not expected until the caucus meets after the November elections. Some caucus members, including Representative Johnny Olszewski (D-MD), have expressed support for Gomez stepping down pending the results of the ethics probe.
