Repair initiatives in Germany promote sustainability and record attempts
Repair initiatives in Germany are promoting sustainability through community-led repair events. In North Rhine-Westphalia, the Reparatur Wuppertal group, in coordination with Repair Café International, has announced an attempt to set a world record in October 2026 by performing as many repairs as possible within a single month.
The initiative invites all repair cafés across the state to participate, aiming to demonstrate the power of repair as a tool for both sustainability and social connection. The campaign is set to culminate in the Repair & Share Festival in Wuppertal on October 31, 2026.
In Langenselbold, local community efforts continue with scheduled Repair Café sessions. These events allow citizens to bring defective household appliances, bicycles, toys, and tools to be fixed by volunteers, following the motto ‘Repair instead of throwing away’ to promote waste reduction.
