Repsol launches renewable gasoline made from used cooking oil

Repsol has launched Nexa 95, a 100% renewable 95-octane gasoline produced from used cooking oil, across 30 service stations in Spain. The fuel is currently available in cities including Madrid, Tarragona, Valencia, Zaragoza, and Bilbao.

Manufactured at the company’s petrochemical complex in Tarragona, Catalonia, this is the first 100% renewable gasoline produced at an industrial scale. The production process utilizes domestic and industrial food waste, which is collected through containers located at Repsol stations.

According to Repsol, Nexa 95 emits 90% less CO2 than fossil-based 95-octane gasoline when considering the full life cycle of the waste. The fuel is designed to be compatible with modern cars and motorcycles without requiring engine modifications, though classic vehicles from before the 1970s may require specific additives. While more environmentally friendly, the product carries a slightly higher price point than conventional gasoline.
