Spain faces fuel shortage risk amid new diesel and gasoline discount promotions

Spanish oil and gas companies Repsol, Moeve and Naturgy warned that EU regulatory changes could limit diesel, gasoline and gas supplies this winter, potentially creating shortages. At the same time, major retailers launched summer discount schemes to ease consumer costs. Repsol introduced a weekend campaign offering up to 45 ¢ per litre of fuel through its Waylet payment system, while BP announced a similar program giving 10 ¢ off regular fuel and 15 ¢ off premium fuel at participating stations from 17 July to 30 August, plus extra perks for professional drivers. The Spanish government responded by tightening monitoring of fuel prices, planning daily checks of station reports to flag unjustified increases as the Brent crude price rose above $93 per barrel and the state fuel subsidy ends in August. Market data showed noticeable price variation across stations, with some chains such as Costco and Alcampo offering below‑average rates, while others like Repsol posted higher prices but bundled additional services. These combined factors illustrate a volatile domestic fuel market where supply concerns, consumer‑focused discounts, and regulatory oversight intersect.
