Repsol ordered to reinstate worker or pay 240,000 euros after unfair dismissal ruling

The High Court of Justice of Catalonia has confirmed the unfair dismissal of a Repsol employee who had been with the company since 1991. The worker, who earned a gross monthly salary of approximately 7,725 euros, was dismissed in November 2023 following allegations of expense report irregularities.

Repsol claimed the employee submitted 49 fraudulent or manipulated expense receipts totaling 1,263.13 euros. However, the court rejected the company's appeal, upholding a previous ruling that the dismissal was improper. As a result, Repsol must now choose between reinstating the employee with back pay or paying a severance of 240,967.11 euros.
