Republic of Moldova celebrates 35 years of independence

The Republic of Moldova is celebrating its 35th anniversary of independence. The anniversary, marking the nation's decision to become a sovereign and democratic state, features a parade on Stefan cel Mare Boulevard in the capital. Notably, for the first time in its history, the country will not include Soviet military equipment in the parade.

High-ranking leaders, including Romanian President Nicușor Dan and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, are expected to participate in the celebrations at the Great National Assembly Square.

The historical significance of Moldova's sovereignty is also reflected in its economic milestones. The Moldovan Leu, the national currency, was introduced into circulation on November 29, 1993, by the National Bank of Moldova. Former Governor Leonid Talmaci has noted that the establishment of the national currency was a vital element of the country's independence and stability during its transition from the Soviet era.
