National Banks in Romania and Moldova launch new commemorative coins
The National Bank of Romania (BNR) is launching a new numismatic series titled ‘Romanian Painters’, starting with a special silver coin dedicated to Nicolae Tonitza. This release marks the first time the BNR has issued a rectangular-shaped coin. The silver piece, which has a nominal value of 10 lei, features a color reproduction of Tonitza’s painting ‘Yellow Flowers’ on the obverse and a portrait of the artist on the reverse. The limited edition consists of only 500 pieces, priced at 1,150 lei each, and includes a presentation brochure and certificate of authenticity.
In Moldova, the National Bank of Moldova (BNM) will release two commemorative coins to mark the 35th anniversary of the country's independence. The first is a silver coin with a nominal value of 100 lei and a mintage of 1,300 units. The second is a commemorative 10 lei coin with a larger circulation of 250,000 units, intended to serve as legal tender alongside existing denominations.
