Romania and Moldova commemorative coin releases
Overview
The National Bank of Romania (BNR) and the National Bank of Moldova (BNM) have announced the release of new commemorative coins.
In Romania, the BNR is introducing a new numismatic series titled ‘Romanian Painters’. The inaugural release is a silver coin dedicated to artist Nicolae Tonitza to mark the 140th anniversary of his birth. This specific coin is notable for being the first rectangular-shaped coin issued by the BNR. It features a color reproduction of the painting ‘Yellow Flowers’ on the obverse and a portrait of Tonitza on the reverse. The limited edition is restricted to 500 pieces.
In Moldova, the BNM is releasing two coins to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the country's independence. This includes a silver coin with a mintage of 1,300 units and a 10 lei coin intended for wider circulation as legal tender.
