Republican attorneys general petition Supreme Court to block Paramount Skydance merger lawsuit
Attorneys general from Iowa and Montana have petitioned the U.S. Supreme Court to dismiss an antitrust lawsuit aimed at blocking the $110 billion acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery by Paramount Skydance.
The lawsuit was initiated by California Attorney General Rob Bonta and 11 other Democratic attorneys general, who argue the merger would reduce competition, increase prices, and lower content quality for consumers.
In opposition, Republican attorneys general Brenna Bird of Iowa and Austin Knudsen of Montana contend the legal action is a politicized attempt to veto a deal already approved by the U.S. Department of Justice and regulators in the European Union. California Governor Gavin Newsom has called for a settlement to protect state jobs, while Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has urged all parties to enter negotiations.
