Republika Srpska announces 10% salary increase for education workers

Milorad Dodik, leader of the SNSD, has announced a 10% salary increase for education workers at all levels of education in Republika Srpska, effective January 1, 2027. Local communities have also been called upon to increase salaries for preschool employees by the same amount.

Dragan Gnjatić, president of the Education, Science, and Culture Union of Republika Srpska, stated that while the increase is welcome, it represents the absolute minimum required. He emphasized the need to address long-standing inconsistencies in salary laws, noting that some highly qualified professionals have seen their pay gaps narrow significantly due to previous partial increases.

Gnjatić warned that inflation and rising costs of living could negate the benefits of the raise. Additionally, union representatives in Banja Luka are seeking concrete steps from city authorities regarding preschool workers, who have been awaiting increases for months.
