Republika Srpska implements new family support and child maintenance measures

Alen Šeranić, the Minister of Health and Social Welfare of Republika Srpska, has urged parents applying for temporary child maintenance to ensure they submit the necessary court enforcement decisions. He noted that failure to provide this specific document has led to the rejection of payments intended to protect children whose parents do not pay court-ordered alimony.

In addition to maintenance updates, Šeranić discussed new measures including the co-financing of stays for younger primary school students in private preschool institutions and the recent increase in maternity benefits, which took effect on August 1. These initiatives were part of a broader package of systemic family support measures introduced by the government.

However, the measures have faced political criticism. Tanja Vukomanović, head of the PDP Parliamentary Club, questioned the adequacy of the support, specifically citing the threshold for child allowances and the lack of job security for pregnant women. She argued that the government's promotional efforts do not address the practical economic struggles of families and young people.
