Republika Srpska family and education support initiatives
Overview
The Government of Republika Srpska has introduced several initiatives aimed at supporting families and children. Initially, the government announced a subsidy program for approximately 600 students enrolled in private after-school care to address capacity shortages in public primary schools. This measure, expected to begin in September 2026, involves an allocation of roughly 500,000 KM, with the highest demand noted in Banja Luka and Bijeljina. Following this, the administration launched the ‘Srpska te voli’ (Republika Srpska Loves You) campaign. This broader systemic initiative is designed to provide institutional assistance across various life stages, including family planning, childbirth, education, and healthcare. The campaign emphasizes practical pronatalist policies and continuous investment in social welfare systems to provide security for parents and children.
Expanding these social welfare efforts, Minister of Family, Youth and Sports Irena Ignjatović announced increases to sports scholarships. Stipends for potential Olympic candidates will rise from 3,000 KM to 4,000 KM, while scholarships for promising athletes and those with disabilities will increase from 2,000 KM to 3,000 KM. Further family support measures include an increase in monthly assistance for unemployed parents with four or more children, which rose from 750 KM to 800 KM effective August 1. Additionally, Nina Bukejlović, Vice President of the National Assembly, highlighted specific pronatalist compensations within the ‘Srpska te voli’ campaign: 600 KM for a third child and 450 KM for a fourth child. Unemployed mothers also receive 18 months of maternity benefits for the third and subsequent children. As of July 1, monthly maternity benefits have increased to 746 KM.
