Republika Srpska Ministry calls for investigation into 2026 wildfires

The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management of Republika Srpska has called upon competent authorities to investigate the causes of various open-space fires that occurred during the 2026 season. The Ministry noted that numerous fire incidents have impacted significant areas, causing damage to forest ecosystems, natural resources, and the environment.

Authorities are requested to determine if any criminal acts occurred or if there was negligence regarding the legal obligations of officials responsible for forest protection. The Ministry emphasized that identifying failures or lack of required preventative measures is essential for strengthening the forest protection system. The Ministry also expressed gratitude to firefighters, civil protection, police, and forest workers for their efforts in mitigating the consequences of the fires.
