Republika Srpska to analyze household electricity consumption

Petar Đokić, the Minister of Energy and Mining, announced that Elektroprivreda Republike Srpske will conduct an analysis of electricity consumption for households in the near future. This follows statements from General Director Luka Petrović regarding the potential modeling of electricity prices if consumption exceeds certain thresholds, particularly due to electric heating.

Đokić stated that electricity prices for both businesses and residents are unlikely to increase before March of next year, noting that current rates are the lowest in the region. He highlighted the financial impact of current pricing, noting that if rates matched those in the Federation of BiH, revenues would increase by 120 million KM. Comparisons to Serbia and Croatia suggested potential revenue increases of 250 million KM and 500 million KM, respectively.

The Minister emphasized that local thermal power plants are facing a crisis due to high production costs coupled with low electricity prices. He stressed that the goal is to maintain the operation of these plants rather than closing them. Additionally, he noted that while the region can produce 35 percent more electricity than required during optimal operating conditions, energy exports depend heavily on hydrological conditions.
