Republika Srpska to subsidize private after-school care for 600 students
The Government of Republika Srpska has announced a financial support measure for approximately 600 students who attend private after-school programs due to a lack of capacity in public primary schools. Starting September 1, 2026, parents can receive monthly subsidies estimated to be between 300 and 500 KM per child.
An inter-ministerial team is currently developing the financing model, with the Public Fund for Child Protection designated as the project implementer. The government has allocated approximately 500,000 KM for this initiative. The highest demand for after-school care is in Banja Luka, where 450 to 500 children lack public placement, followed by Bijeljina.
Minister of Education and Culture Borivoje Golubović stated that this is a temporary measure. The government is already initiating administrative and tender procedures to expand the capacity of five primary schools in Banja Luka to provide a permanent solution.
