Dengue fever cases reported in Tuscany and Veneto

Multiple cases of Dengue fever have been reported across Italy, prompting health authorities to initiate mosquito control measures. In Tuscany, ten confirmed cases have been identified, primarily involving individuals who visited the area between Piombino and Baratti in August. In Pisa, a new case has triggered emergency disinfestation efforts in the city and San Piero a Grado to prevent local transmission by the tiger mosquito.

Pisa Mayor Michele Conti has called on the Tuscany Region to revise current prevention policies. He is advocating for the return of scheduled adulticide treatments, noting that since 2022, regional regulations have restricted municipalities to extraordinary interventions only after a case is reported. Conti argues that the evolving epidemiological situation requires more proactive measures to protect public health.

In the Veneto region, a woman in Resana contracted the virus during a trip to Sri Lanka. This marks the fifth imported case reported by Ulss 2 in 2026. Local authorities have scheduled multiple rounds of adulticide and larvicide treatments around the patient's residence to mitigate the risk of local spread.
