2‑year‑old rescued from Chania pool, now in intensive care
On the afternoon of 25 July, a two‑year‑old boy of German nationality was found unconscious in a private swimming pool in the Apokoronos district of Chania, Crete. His mother, who is a medical doctor, immediately performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation for about five minutes, restoring his breathing. Emergency responders from EKAB arrived, and the child was first taken to the General Hospital of Rethymno. Because of the seriousness of his condition, he was intubated and transferred to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit of the University General Hospital of Heraklion (PA GNI). Doctors say he is in a critical but stable state and are closely monitoring him for possible neurological effects after an estimated two‑to‑three minutes of submersion. Police and health authorities are investigating how the child entered the pool and the circumstances surrounding the incident.
