Italian Alpine Rescue Teams Aid Injured Hikers Across Multiple Mountains

On 20 June 2026 the Corpo Nazionale Soccorso Alpino e Speleologico (CNSAS) carried out a series of mountain‑rescue operations across Italy.

In Abruzzo’s Monte Tarì a 54‑year‑old hiker who became disoriented was located by a ground team and winched to safety, then taken by ambulance to Lanciano hospital. Near Rome on Monte Viglio, a 30‑year‑old man slipped while assisting his dog, sustained a severe leg fracture and was air‑lifted to Tor Vergata hospital. In Val di Fassa, a German and a Canadian climber were stranded by a storm at 2 500 m; one suffered mild hypothermia and both were recovered by winch and flown to the hospital in Cavalese.

Further incidents included two alpinists rescued on the Pizzo Coca‑Presolana ridge after sudden bad weather, two Slovenian rock‑climbers saved from the Cima Piccola della Scala in Tarvisio during a thunderstorm, and a climber who fell at Piobbico’s Falesia del Re and was winched to a landing zone before being transported to a hospital via Cagli. Each operation employed a CNSAS helicopter, on‑board medical staff and winching techniques to bring victims to safety.
