Rescued dogs and cats find new lives after abandonment in New York and Italy
Joy, a stray dog found in a New York parking lot with a broken leg, was adopted by Camila Nieto. After an initial cast failed and the leg became necrotic, veterinarians amputated the limb. The dog now lives independently on three legs with a supportive family and a custom wheelchair.
In Fossano, Italy, the animal welfare group LIDA Carrù‑Mondovì‑Ceva intervened to care for four abandoned mother cats and their fifteen newborn kittens. Volunteers provided food, shelter and veterinary care, while LIDA plans to sterilise the mothers and seek permanent homes for the kittens, issuing an appeal for adopters and temporary foster homes.
