Researchers find charred wood at Durupinar site in Turkey
Archaeologists investigating the Durupinar formation in eastern Turkey have reported the discovery of multiple charred wood fragments. The site has long been associated with the biblical account of Noah’s Ark due to its boat-like appearance.
Lead researcher Cenker Atila stated that the wood samples have been sent to a laboratory for carbon-14 dating to determine their age. The carbonized state of the wood may be the result of ancient fire or past volcanic activity in the region, though this remains unconfirmed. While the depth of the fragments suggests they may be ancient, researchers emphasized that the presence of wood does not prove the site is the biblical Ark.
Additional claims regarding the site suggest that radar testing has identified man-made structures, including hallways and chambers, beneath the surface. However, scientific confirmation of these structures and the age of the organic material is still pending laboratory results.
