Researchers propose method to eliminate energy fluctuations in quantum batteries
Researchers have developed a theoretical framework to address the issue of unpredictable energy fluctuations when charging quantum batteries. By utilizing the nonunique decomposition of mixed states in quantum theory, scientists have identified a way to achieve deterministic energy transfer.
Studies led by teams at City University of Hong Kong and Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications suggest that energy can be moved from an unpredictable source into a device without transferring the associated randomness. In a proposed three-qubit system, two qubits act as a ‘charger’ to transfer energy to a single qubit ‘battery’ through a process described as a “cascaded collision frame”.
The research indicates that specific arrangements of entanglement, or even a complete lack of it, between charger components can ensure consistent energy storage. This approach allows the collector to reach a predictable target state rather than an uncertain amount of stored energy, potentially paving the way for more reliable quantum sensors and wearable technologies.
