Bucharest Resident Doctor Found Dead in Floreasca Hospital Bathroom

A 32‑year‑old fifth‑year resident doctor was found unconscious in the bathroom of Floreasca Emergency Hospital in Bucharest on Saturday afternoon at about 14:45. Colleagues attempted resuscitation but the man died and his body was taken to the Institute of Legal Medicine for an autopsy. Police opened a homicide investigation, with the case now under the jurisdiction of the Bucharest prosecutor’s office.

The Resident Doctors Multidisciplinary Association said the death is “not an isolated case but a warning signal from a system that exhausts and abandons its young doctors,” citing chronic overwork, long shifts and stigma around mental‑health problems. The association noted that at least 46 Romanian doctors have died during or shortly after on‑call duties in recent years, underscoring broader concerns about physician burnout.

Authorities have not yet released the cause of death pending the medico‑legal report.
