Resident Evil film reaches $320.2 million global box office record

The new live-action Resident Evil film, directed by Zach Cregger, has become the highest-grossing entry in the franchise, surpassing the 2016 film ‘Resident Evil: The Final Chapter’. As of mid-October 2026, the film has reached a global box office total of approximately $320.2 million.

Significant revenue was driven by a strong performance in China, where the film earned $40.6 million during its opening weekend, marking the strongest horror debut in the region in two years. In the United States, the film has earned $138.5 million, while international markets have contributed $181.7 million. Other notable markets include the United Kingdom, Mexico, and Australia.

Director Zach Cregger has also seen a personal career milestone, as the film’s earnings have overtaken his previous highest-grossing work, ‘Weapons’. The production has received critical acclaim, with high scores on Rotten Tomatoes, and has been praised by industry figures like Hideo Kojima for successfully capturing the atmosphere of the original video game experience.
