Resident Evil film becomes box office hit under Zach Cregger

Zach Cregger’s new Resident Evil film has become a significant box office success, grossing over $245 million worldwide against a $75 million production budget. The film is currently eyeing a final total between $320 million and $340 million, which would set a new record for the franchise. It has also achieved critical acclaim, holding a 96% score on Rotten Tomatoes and becoming one of the highest-rated video game adaptations on both Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic.

Star Austin Abrams has noted that the film’s dark and tragic ending was a “risky and gutsy” creative choice by Cregger, designed to make audiences feel deeply invested in the protagonist, Bryan. The film’s visual style, which utilizes first-person perspectives and dynamic cinematography to evoke the atmosphere of the original games, has been widely praised.

Following this success, Cregger is reportedly moving toward a new horror project titled ‘The Flood,’ starring Jennifer Lawrence, which is planned for release in 2028.
