Resident Evil film set for 2026 release with new story

Sony Pictures is preparing a new Resident Evil film for release in the United States on September 18, 2026. Directed by Zach Cregger, known for Barbarian, the film is described as a reinvention of the franchise rather than a direct sequel to previous adaptations.

The story follows Bryan, a medical courier played by Austin Abrams, who becomes trapped in chaos during a mission to deliver a mysterious package to Raccoon City. As a virus transforms the population into aggressive infected beings, Bryan must fight to survive. The production features a cast including Zach Cherry, Kali Reis, and Paul Walter Hauser, with a screenplay co-written by Cregger and Shay Hatten.
