Resident Evil film utilizes Czech locations and black humor
Director Zach Cregger is bringing a new vision to the Resident Evil franchise, focusing on cinematic tension and a blend of horror and black humor. The film follows Bryan, played by Austin Abrams, a courier delivering an organ for transplant to Raccoon City who becomes trapped in a fight for survival.
Cregger aimed to capture the authentic atmosphere of the survival horror games, emphasizing resource management and intense, claustrophobic pacing. The production utilized locations in the Czech Republic to recreate a snowy, North American-style setting, with the director praising the local talent in special effects. To maintain the film's winter night setting, much of the filming took place during night shifts, creating a demanding production schedule.
