Residential burglaries decline in Zennevallei and Overijssel
Crime statistics from the Zennevallei police zone and the Overijssel province show a significant downward trend in residential burglaries. In Zennevallei, burglaries fell to 433 in 2025, the lowest number in a decade, compared to 861 in 2016.
In Overijssel, the number of burglaries in the third quarter dropped by 48.4 percent, from 312 to 161, outperforming the national average in the Netherlands. Notable decreases occurred in Enschede and Zwolle, while some municipalities like Ommen, Dalfsen, and Tubbergen reported zero incidents. However, increases were noted in Kampen and Rijssen-Holten.
Despite the drop in traditional crime, Zennevallei reported rising challenges in other areas, including 970 cases of cybercrime, increased incidents of nuisance, and a rise in violence and domestic abuse. Additionally, traffic data showed more cyclists being injured than car drivers.
