Residential fires cause property damage in Ecuador and Mexico

Separate residential fires have caused significant material losses in Esmeraldas, Ecuador, and Monclova, Mexico.

In Atacames, Esmeraldas, a family lost their wooden home and belongings to a fire on September 12, 2026. The blaze, which reportedly began from a spark near a utility pole and was followed by a gas cylinder explosion, destroyed clothing, school supplies, and appliances. This marks the second time the family has lost their home to disaster, having previously suffered from flooding and fire three years ago.

In Monclova, Mexico, a fire broke out in a residence in the Loma Linda neighborhood. Preliminary investigations suggest a faulty cell phone charger may have caused a short circuit. While no injuries were reported, one family member suffered mild smoke inhalation, and the property sustained considerable damage.
