Residential fires in Latin America

Overview

Multiple residential fires have been reported across various regions in South and Central America, resulting in property damage and evacuations.

In early September, incidents occurred in Chile, Argentina, and Peru. In Chile, a heating system exhaust duct ignited in Pindaco, causing minor structural damage. In Argentina, a severe fire in Corrientes left a home at risk of collapse and caused minor burns to a father and son. In Peru, a short circuit on the 21st floor of a building in Jesús María necessitated a resident evacuation.

By mid-September, further fires were reported in Ecuador and Mexico. In Esmeraldas, Ecuador, a fire involving a spark near a utility pole and a gas cylinder explosion destroyed a wooden home. In Monclova, Mexico, a suspected faulty cell phone charger caused a short circuit that damaged a residence and led to one case of smoke inhalation.
