Stuttgart Basement Fire Injures Six Including Child

A fire broke out in the basement of a nine‑storey residential and commercial building on Strohberg Street in Stuttgart‑Süd on Saturday night. Thick smoke filled the stairwell, blocking escape routes and forcing residents to seek refuge at windows and balconies. Firefighters deployed four rescue teams with breathing apparatus, extinguished the blaze, and used two aerial ladders to protect occupants on the upper floors. Six people, among them a child, were treated for suspected smoke‑inhalation; the child was taken to hospital. After the fire was out, high‑capacity fans ventilated the building and air‑quality measurements were taken. Bus lines 43 and N1 were temporarily suspended during the operation. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by police, and all residents were later allowed to return to their apartments.
