Residents in Peru protest local infrastructure projects
Residents in two different Peruvian districts are protesting against local infrastructure developments. In the Subtanjalla district, neighbors of the Los Huertos de San Antonio urbanization have rejected a municipal project to expand water and sewage networks. Residents claim the project would divert water from the San Antonio well to other sectors, potentially reducing their own supply. They noted that the well's capacity has significantly declined from 65 liters per second in 2011 to approximately 18 liters per second currently. As a protest, residents have periodically blocked the main entrance to their community to prevent machinery from entering.
In the Los Olivos sector, residents are protesting the installation of a telecommunications antenna on private property near their homes. Neighbors expressed concerns regarding the structure's proximity to residential buildings and requested a halt to the works. A representative from the company executing the project stated that the installation is being carried out under Law No. 29022, which governs telecommunications infrastructure expansion. The company invoked an automatic approval mechanism after not receiving a response from the municipality regarding their technical file submitted in September. Residents have contacted the National Police to request an inspection of the site.
