Residents of Atlangatepec and Chalco in Mexico protest government actions

Residents of Atlangatepec, part of the San Pedro Ecatepec area, continued to oppose the federal “Polo de Desarrollo de Economía Circular para el Bienestar” (PODECIBI) project, saying it would harm health, the environment and water resources. They demanded that the community’s right to a healthy environment and to decide the future of their land be respected, rejecting the project despite its claimed economic benefits.

In the neighboring municipality of Chalco, inhabitants of the El Tetel colony submitted a written request to municipal president Abigail Sánchez Martínez asking for urgent repairs to the Mejorada and Camino al Monte roads after heavy rains caused flooding and accidents. Officials told the residents the office was closed for a vacation period, leaving the petition pending despite municipal vehicles still circulating. An earlier storm‑related accident on Camino al Monte resulted in a fatality.
