Residents oppose proposed data center developments in Texas and Pennsylvania
Local opposition is mounting against proposed data center developments in both Alpine, Texas, and Elizabeth Township, Pennsylvania.
In Brewster County, Texas, an ad hoc group is campaigning against a Pacifico Energy proposal to build a 3,000 to 4,000-acre industrial complex and power plant on the Little Suzy Properties. Opponents, including local ranchers and attorney Rod Ponton, cite concerns regarding air and noise pollution, increased water consumption, and the visual impact on the Glass Mountains. The group is referencing statistics from a nearby Pacifico facility in Pecos County, which received a permit for significant pollutant releases.
In Elizabeth Township, Pennsylvania, more than 200 residents attended a public hearing regarding a potential 550-acre data center site on Henderson Road. Developer Tim Hendricks proposed the project, suggesting it could generate $125 million in tax revenue and create up to 300 permanent jobs. However, residents raised concerns regarding the proximity of the facility to homes and the potential impact on local resources. The meeting saw significant public engagement, including the submission of approximately 330 questions.
