Respiratory infections rise in Bistrița-Năsăud and Vaslui
Respiratory infections and pneumonia cases are rising across several Romanian counties as colder weather arrives.
In Bistrița-Năsăud, the Public Health Directorate reported the first two confirmed cases of influenza for the season, affecting individuals in the 15–49 and over 65 age groups. During the period of October 5–11, a person over the age of 65 died from pneumonia. The county recorded 237 pneumonia cases, with 61 requiring hospitalization, primarily affecting those over 65. Additionally, 2,419 cases of acute upper respiratory infections were documented, with children under 15 being the most affected group.
Similarly, in Vaslui, medical authorities reported an increase in respiratory illnesses, with over 1,000 cases recorded in a single week. Pneumonia cases in the county have also risen, exceeding 160 reports, with approximately one-third of those patients requiring hospitalization. While respiratory infections are climbing, no influenza cases have been confirmed in Vaslui during the monitored period. Health officials recommend frequent hand washing, room ventilation, and vaccination as preventive measures.
