Respiratory illness increases in Romania
Overview
Medical authorities in Romania have reported a rise in respiratory infections and pneumonia cases across several counties as temperatures drop.
In Bistrița-Năsăud, officials confirmed the first two cases of influenza for the season, affecting both the 15–49 and over 65 age groups. The county recorded 237 pneumonia cases, with 61 requiring hospitalization, and 2,419 cases of acute upper respiratory infections, primarily impacting children under 15. One death from pneumonia was reported among an individual over the age of 65.
In Vaslui, respiratory illnesses increased with over 1,000 cases documented in a single week. Pneumonia reports in the county exceeded 160, with approximately one-third of those patients requiring hospitalization. While respiratory infections are climbing, no influenza cases have been confirmed in Vaslui during the monitored period.
