Restored 'Xica da Silva' Film Returns to Brazilian Screens on 50th Anniversary

The 1976 Brazilian classic *Xica da Silva*, directed by Cacá Diegues and starring Zezé Motta, is being shown in a newly remastered version to mark its 50th anniversary. The film, which originally drew more than 3 million viewers and won multiple awards at the Festival de Brasília, is being screened in Salvador at Cine Lankiana (Instituto Audiovisual Mulheres de Odun) on August 6‑12.

In Marília, the Clube de Cinema de Marília partnered with Sessão Vitrine to present a free restored screening on Saturday, August 8, at the Complexo Cultural Braz Alécio. Tickets cost R$ 12 (full) or R$ 6 (half) for non‑members, with proceeds supporting the club’s facilities. Both events highlight the film’s lasting cultural impact as a landmark of Brazilian cinema that placed a Black woman at its centre.
