Retailers Mercadona and Action expand presence in Portugal

Retailers Mercadona and Action are continuing their expansion efforts in Portugal with new store openings.

Mercadona has inaugurated its 76th supermarket in the country, located in Vila Real. The new 1,900-square-meter facility involved an investment exceeding 9.5 million euros and created 74 permanent jobs. The store features various departments, including butchery, fishmonger, bakery, and a self-service prepared meal area, along with 180 parking spaces.

Action, the European discount chain, is also expanding its footprint with a new location in Vialonga, Vila Franca de Xira. The retailer, which has been present in Portugal for just over two years, focuses on a high-turnover model with approximately 6,000 products across 14 categories and roughly 150 new items arriving weekly.
