Retailers modernize physical stores through POS technology
Physical retail businesses are evolving to remain competitive against digital giants by integrating technology and focusing on personalized customer experiences. While brick-and-mortar stores face high operational costs and intense competition from online retailers like Amazon, they maintain advantages through immediate product accessibility and personal human interaction.
A study by Coresight Research and Aptos highlights the critical role of point-of-sale (POS) modernization in this transformation. Modern POS systems allow stores to act as fulfillment centers and engagement hubs, supporting omnichannel capabilities such as buy online, pick up in-store (BOPIS) and in-store returns.
Research indicates that 78 percent of retail executives have modernized by moving toward cloud-native environments, as legacy systems often struggle to manage real-time inventory visibility and personalized clienteling. The global POS market is projected to grow from $36.4 billion this year to $59.3 billion by 2030.
