Retatrutid shows significant weight loss in Phase 3 trials

The experimental weight-loss drug Retatrutid is generating significant interest following results from a large Phase 3 clinical trial. In the study, nearly half of the participants receiving the highest dose lost at least 30 percent of their initial body weight.

Unlike previous generations of weight-loss injections such as semaglutide (used in Ozempic and Wegovy) or tirzepatide (used in Mounjaro), Retatrutid acts as a triple-agonist. While earlier treatments target one or two hormone receptors, Retatrutid activates three: the GLP-1, GIP, and glucagon receptors. The addition of the glucagon signaling pathway is believed to potentially influence energy expenditure in addition to affecting appetite, satiety, and sugar metabolism.

Retatrutid is administered via a weekly injection but has not yet received official regulatory approval.
