Retired Delhi Police Plan Jantar Mantar Sit‑In Over July 20 Violence
Retired Delhi police officers, represented by the Delhi Police Mahasangh, have applied to Commissioner Anurag Kumar for permission to hold a peaceful sit‑in at Jantar Mantar on July 31. The demonstration is intended to show solidarity with police personnel injured during the July 20 “Cockroach Janta Party” (CJP) protest that turned violent outside Parliament. Police authorities reported that more than 100 officers were hurt, while over 65 protesters also sustained injuries. Rapid Action Force personnel were briefly equipped with pellet guns, which were later withdrawn after allegations of misuse. The Supreme Court has taken note of the alleged police excesses and called for an independent investigation.
