Retired Army Major Khandakar Abdul Hafiz has been arrested by the Detective Branch (DB) of police in Dhaka’s Banani area. He has been shown arrested in a case involving former army officers Debashish Kumar Barua and Kazi Gulshan Ara.

Authorities allege Hafiz was involved in anti-government activities, fund collection, and the promotion of violent digital content. According to police, Hafiz used a platform called ‘Unity Care and Public Parliament’ to engage in state-subversive conspiracies and attempt the rehabilitation of the Awami League by maintaining contact with former Army Chief General (retd) Aziz Ahmed and other fugitives.

Additional allegations include inciting disorder via his Facebook page, spreading propaganda favoring the killing of police officers, and communicating with domestic and foreign spies. A Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate granted a four-day remand for Hafiz following his production in court on Sunday.

Separate reports indicate Hafiz is also facing allegations regarding his involvement in the 2009 BDR mutiny conspiracy, an event that resulted in the deaths of 74 people, including many high-ranking military officers.
