Reus implements smart traffic bollards and expanded school bus services

The city of Reus is implementing new urban mobility measures to improve pedestrian safety and school transport. The Reus City Council will launch a traffic regulation system using automatic bollards and license plate readers near the Pallol area and Doctor Robert street. This system, which includes access points at Plaça de Catalunya and Carrer de la Mar, is designed to reduce transit traffic and pacify highly congested areas with narrow sidewalks. Access will be regulated between 11:00 and 02:00, following the authorization of over 1,000 local access permits.

Simultaneously, Reus Transport is expanding its “A l’insti en bus” service for the upcoming school year starting September 8. The municipal company has redesigned its routes to better serve over 8,400 secondary students, increasing morning service from three to four lines and adding a new afternoon line. This expansion is supported by the addition of four new hybrid buses to the fleet, aiming to reduce waiting times and improve efficiency based on mobility studies conducted with local educational centers.
