Spain housing initiatives: municipal proposals and infrastructure projects

Various Spanish municipalities and regional governments are implementing diverse strategies to address housing shortages and urban development. In Reus, the City Council plans to demolish the former Pich Aguilera factory in 2027 to make way for 190 official protection housing units through the Generalitat’s 'Pla 50.000 Habitatges'.

In La Granadella, two municipal rental apartments priced at 400 euros per month have been opened for families and young people. Meanwhile, the PSC in Igualada has proposed constructing affordable rental housing on municipal land, rehabilitating vacant properties, and transforming the Rec neighborhood to include residential uses. In Terrassa, the PSC is conditioning its support for the 2027 budget on halting the sale of two land parcels by Foment.

Other regional developments include Santa Pola awarding a 40-year concession to ASCH Infraestructuras y Servicios S.A. to complete a municipal swimming pool and sports residence project that had been stalled since 2009. In Molins de Rei, new fiscal ordinances set for 2027 will increase the Property Tax (IBI) and introduce specific surcharges for tourist accommodations and vacant homes. Additionally, the People's Party (PP) has proposed mobilizing public land in tourist municipalities to offer rentals at 30% below market rates.
